What is Lilith? THE MOTHER OF MONSTERS OR FIRST WOMAN?

Although Lilith has been identified as a demon, seductress, and scapegoat throughout history, in modern times, women’s movements starting in the 1970s have …embraced her as a feminist and role model.

Lilith is a female figure in Mesopotamian and Judaic mythology, and according to some beliefs the first wife of Adam.

But what do we really know about this mysterious figure; that some call the female version of Satan himself? Even the mother of monsters?

In any given night in the village of Atuga, Ethiopia, markets shut early, farmers return from there livestock, and …mothers hurry their children home before the setting sun. It’s late October. A few kids stay behind. Wanting to finish their game. Insects, nightjars, and the yip of a hyena pierce the air. Nearby the sight of the local blacksmith can be seen. Catching the attention of one of the boys is black smoke from the blacksmith nearby. He steps closer to a sound. A whisper he could swear was a voice calling his name. Before he steps further his mother grabs him. Chiding him for staying out too late. He leaves. Heading home with his mother. Looking back. A figure. Not a man, but a creature. Watches him at the doorstep of the villages blacksmith.

Hello friends and welcome to our channel. Today on Wicked Dual we are talking about the shape-shifting werehyena of Ethiopia.

Werehyenas can be either human-born or hyenas disguising
themselves as humans.

In Ethiopia, it is traditionally believed that every
blacksmith, whose trade is hereditary, is really a
wizard or witch with the power to change into a hyena. These blacksmith werehyenas are accepted to rob graves at midnight and are referred to as buda.

A term synonymous with the evil eye.

Blacksmithing was a profession traditionally dominated by the Jews of Ethiopia.

The Jews of Ethiopia weren’t allowed to own land or attend most schools. This left them with professions such as blacksmithing-an inherited trade that required no formal education.

Belief in werehyenas is still reasonably widespread today in
the rural Horn of Africa, particularly in villages like Atuga, where the threat of the werehyena governs everyday life. There, mothers still send their children to bed with a tale about werehyenas, assuring them that ghoulish cackling won’t be the last sound they hear if they heed the warnings.
